The Isle of Man
The magical Isle of Man, a lush, mineral-laden island of green hills, forests and farms, is only 13 miles wide and 32 miles long. Yet it boasts a rich 9,000- year history at the crossroads of Celtic culture, Viking influence, and Arthurian Legend. Over its history, this tiny island country has passed from the Norsemen to the Scots to the English Crown and now holds its status as an independent self-governing community outside the United Kingdom. It boasts the longest- reigning parliament in the world with unbroken traditions - The Tynwald-which celebrated its 1,000 anniversary in 1979.
The Isle of Man is the ancestral home of many famous people, including Miles Standish of Mayflower fame, Fletcher Christian of Bounty fame, former U.S. Vice President J. Danforth Quayle, and the musical group the Bee Gees. The island is also popular as a location for many films, due to its unspoiled beauty. Waking Ned Devine, I Capture the Castle, and many other films have been shot there. More information is available Here
